Of course I’m not ‘one of those women’.
Healing from domestic abuse is a very personal journey that requires education, resilience and tons of support. Here are just some of the steps I took to reclaim my life.
- Seek professional help – can be easier said than done.
- Read it all, watch it all and listen to it all.
- Write it all down.
- Join support groups, find a hobby, talk to people.
- Practice self-care – in the early days that could be just brushing your hair now and then!
- Get up, get dressed and do something. Anything.
- Fake it until you make it
- Allow the emotions – cry, shout, grieve, rage.
